Robert Mapunga of Kavonde Village in Chinhoyi allegedly met the girl, who had been sent by her parents to an adjacent village, and offered her an aluminum pot that he was carrying if she agreed to be intimate with him.
The girl refused and Mapunga allegedly dragged her into a nearby bush and removed her undergarments and raped her once.
The girl cried out for help and a man who was passing by came to her rescue. Mapunga disappeared into the bush, but was arrested a week later while wearing the same clothes he wore when he allegedly committed the crime. He appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Mrs Tendai Muchini who remanded him out of custody to August 12.
Mapungu told the court that he did not rape the girl, but but was stopped before any penetration had occurred. Prosecutor Mr Voice Chivhiya appeared for the State.
