Torrie Lynn Emery, 23, was charged with second-degree murder, assault and child abuse. Emery had a dispute with Danielle Booth, 20, that began with Facebook postings about a jailed man they both know, said Pontiac Police Sergeant Kevin Braddock.
On Thursday, Booth went to Pontiac police to report that Emery had threatened her at her home after the exchange on the Facebook social network, according to Braddock.
A few hours after that report, Emery spotted Booth at a McDonald’s restaurant in Pontiac. As they left the restaurant, Emery chased a car carrying Booth being driven by a friend, Ayesha Abernathy, 21.
Emery, who was riding with her 3-year-old daughter, rammed the car several times with her vehicle.
Abernathy ran a red light to get away from Emery, and hit a truck. Abernathy was killed, and Booth was taken to the hospital, where she was in critical condition, Braddock said.
Police witnessed the accident and arrested Emery a few blocks away. Emery was being held without bail. If convicted, she faces a possible life sentence.
