A 24-year-old man believed to be a Zimbabwean was stabbed to death by a workmate over an undisclosed debt at Siloam village near Thohoyandou in Limpopo Province, South African police said yesterday.

The South African police spokesperson for Limpopo in Thohoyandou, Captain Mashudu Malelo, said the incident occurred on Saturday at about 2pm.

"The man whom we suspect could be a Zimbabwean was stabbed in the stomach with a knife by a workmate following a dispute over money. However, we are still investigating," said Capt Malelo.

"The suspect is still on the run and police have since launched a manhunt."

Capt Malelo said the body was taken to Thohoyandou government hospital mortuary.

"As police we are also appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to alert us. We also would like to urge people to desist from violence and taking the law into their own hands as they risk prosecution," said the police spokesperson.
